Our Headteacher asked the Gifted and Talented coordinator who she thought were the G&T members of staff and we were having a bit of a discussion about it yesterday. We decided that it would depend on the criteria being used: is being a G&T teacher always getting outstanding lesson observations or it is those with the odd, slightly quirky personality traits such as social awkwardness? Is it those with a thirst for knowledge or those that have a skill in a particular area?
We didn’t really come to any conclusions but it just shows how important the criteria are that you choose to use. I think most teachers would fit into at least one of those ideas. How many does it really take?
And the key question: how are you going to make sure your G&T staff are provided for in the same way that we provide something extra for G&T pupils?
