This week we have been joining in with targetboards as part of our numeracy mental oral starters. These can be found at http://www.targetboard.net and the premise is that each school logs on at a set time, has 5 minutes to find as many answers as possible and submit them using the chat function in gogle docs. It was really successful (apart from the fact that the link didn’t appear for us one the first day) and my class really got into it, getting really excited and eager to give their answers.
It’s also given me lots of ideas of how to use the collaborative features of google docs to facilitate learning in a variety of ways. One of them is quite extravagant and I need more time to organise the idea properly before I share it but think it will be great if a group of schools could pull it off. I know that Simon Lewis who organised the target boards has lots of other ideas up his sleeve for future collaborative events too, across a range of subjects, which would be good to get involved with.
